چکیده

The thermal degradation of foamed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) patterns in the expendable pattern casting process has been studied. Various physical transitions that may occur during the degradation of PMMA have been determined using scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis, and the effects of polymer density on the degradation characteristics have been investigated. The results indicate that, when exposed to elevated temperatures, the polymer beads collapse at about 140 to 200 ~ The collapsed beads melt at 260 ~ and begin to volatilize. Peak volatilization temperatures are on the order of 370 ~ The end temperature for volatilization is between 420 and 430 ~ The initial density of the polymer does not have a significant effect on the transition temperatures associated with degradation.

Stabilizing effect of oxygen on thermal degradation of poly(methyl methacrylate)

The thermal degradation of poly(methyl methacrylate) has been studied under nitrogen and air. The presence of oxygen increases the initial decomposition temperature by 708C. The stabilizing effect of oxygen is explained by the formation of thermally stable radical species that suppress unzipping of the polymer. This assumption is supported by the experimental fact that introduction of NO into t...

PMMA degradation protection investigation using ultraviolet additive

Polymethyl methacrylate, PMMA, is one of the most important thermoplastic material which can be used as replacement of glass due to its unmatched properties. But PMMA is prone to UV and thermal degradation. So to overcome this drawback, along with PMMA, UV absorber is incorporated which not only acts as a stabiliser but also inhibits 60% of degradation. It also provides better thermal stability...

Effects of addition of BaTiO3 Nano particles on the conductivity of PVdF/PMMA based polymer blend electrolytes

Composite polymer electrolyte (CPE) membranes, comprising poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF)/poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), BaTiO3 as ceramic filler and LiBF4 as the lithium salt were prepared using a solution casting technique. The prepared membranes were subjected to XRD, FT-IR, impedance spectroscopy and thermal stability studies. The incorporation of nanofiller greatly enhanced the ionic...
